HS2 and National Grid Heavy Lifting

Baldwins Crane Hire Projects & Engineering Division played a crucial role in the installation of a 50m cable bridge over the Warwickshire Junction Canal in Birmingham.

With site enabling works and the development of a safe system of work starting many months prior to the lift, Baldwins Engineers worked with the Client Technical Team to establish a safe system of works. This resulted in a safe and efficient lifting scheme that met with operational requirements of both HS2 and National Grid, along with the stringent Temporary Works Design Brief.

Using one of our Liebherr LTM1500-8.1 Mobile Cranes the installation took place, with the role of Baldwins Crane Hire acknowledged and congratulated by project stakeholders.

“Wood Power Solutions UK have successfully completed another key milestone on behalf of clients NGED (National Grid Electricity Distribution) & HS2 (High Speed Two Rail). The cable route is being diverted due to extensive HS2 development planned, as part of the enabling works for the new HS2 train route from London to the Midlands & upgrade of the national high-speed rail infrastructure.

The team have successfully completed the final installation of a 50m steel cable bridge, over the Warwickshire Junction Canal, Birmingham. The team work diligently and safely executed a contract lift yesterday, which will facilitate the installation of the new cables (6 x 132kV cables, 6 x 11kV cables & ancillary pilot cables) due for energisation in September 2023.

Praise has been received from both clients, peers and stakeholders in the area for the teams careful planning, clear communication and management, of this complex lift.
