Baldwins Training

Highly trained, skilled, competent and safety conscious individuals within any industry are critical as even the smallest mistakes can result in disaster.

At Baldwins Training we intend to raise the standard of practical ability and operational awareness within the lifting industry. Our aim is to prevent, or reduce the severity and frequency of, accidents in and around the lifting operation.

Our training employee program begins on the first day of employment and continues throughout their career with the company. Our induction process is as follows

Company induction to include

Working at Heights Awareness

Manual Handling Awareness

COSHH

Fire Safety Awareness

Drugs &  Alcohol Awareness

Emergency Procedures

Issue of Company Handbook

This list is not exhaustive of the complete induction package.

For existing crane operators joining the company,

All lifting operations competencies are checked with the CPCS card checker service and training needs analysis performed to ascertain further training requirements if any.

They are then inducted or familiarised on the crane they will be operating, once this is completed our training department will perform an operator assessment to assess their operating ability on the make and model of crane they are operating. If any remedial training is required then this is performed at the earliest opportunity.

This process of handover and assessment is completed when operators are required to use different machines within our fleet. If an operator is not required to operate other machines they are assessed annually on the machine they are operating.

All of our operators are trained in working at heights (applicable to their job role), safe use and inspection of harness and lanyard and safe use and inspection of ladders. They are re assessed on a regular basis and recorded on the company training matrix.

Bringing People into the Industry

Baldwins we are bringing new talent into the industry by offering to the right people with the correct categories on their driving licence the opportunity to join our operator training program. Our training  package is as follows.

Candidate will begin their employment as yard operative / van driver after passing their basic CSCS card to allow them access to site. During this time they will be trained internal as a slinger signaller for loading out duties in the yard. After performing these duties satisfactorily they will  be assessed, once our training manager is confident that they are at the correct skill level they will attend a CPCS training course to gain their RED Slingers Card. They will then get further site experience under the supervision of a suitably trained and qualified lift supervisor.

A similar process is used for training them as crane operators. Yard training loading out to the correct basic skill level, CPCS training to RED Card and sent out with a suitably trained and qualified operator until they are assessed for solo duties.

This training is then followed up with the appropriate NVQ training to gain their Blue CPCS Card in these competencies. The process normally takes 6 to 8 months depending upon the progress of the candidate.

At Baldwins we currently partner with external provider’s for all examinations of CPCS
